Difference between deemed University/ autonomous University/ State University
Hello Aspirant,
- The main difference between a Autonomous and a deemed university is that, a deemed university is more free and flexible as compared to the Autonomous Universities.
- A deemed university is a college or institution with a name of the university. Under autonomous university, many institutes and colleges can fall, however under deemed universities, there is a single college or institution only.
- Apart from that, a deemed university cannot be run only by offering course in various subjects. There has to be some research field also that should run under the university. This condition is not necessary for the autonomous University.
- All an autonomous University needs is to set up a college under it with the norms of the Human Resources Department.
-
The Deemed University is a university that has the right to carry on its own educational affairs. This includes the conduct of examination and set up of the syllabus. However, the Autonomous Universities have to consider a particular time for all the colleges under it.
Coming to the state universities they are completely govt owned and the rules are regulations are according to the Govt only.
Hope this answers you well. Good Luck.

Hi Bishnu,
A State Univeristy is one which is controlled by the State Government, handling all related affairs of the University. An autonomous University on the other hand, is not under the control of the Government, rather they can handle all their functioning independently. When we say 'University', we mean that it comprises of various colleges and institutions within it. However, a deemed University is only one single institution which is considered to be a University. A Deemed Univeristy can also handle all its education affairs (conduct of examination, syllabus, schedule etc.)independently. Therefore, very simply State Universities are controlled by the State government. Both Autonomous and Deemed Universities are independent in fucntioning. But, a deemed university is not actually a university, but is granted the status like that of a univeristy.
Thanks,
