Hello my friend,

Mechanical students dont need to carry laptops to classrooms in most of cases, you will need it for your project works only , so normal laptop is sufficient .

No , Mechanical engineering students do not  need to carry laptop to classrooms.

In India most of the colleges do not require students to bring laptops in classroom ,you will be doing all your college work which requires computer in your computer lab but you should buy a high performance laptop(preferably a gaming laptop ) because you will need it for Practical assignment and for running software(for example AUTOCAD etc)which requires high specification laptop.

Hope this helps.
