Does cat exam has different criterias and percentage requirements for different graduates? For example, for b.tech guys one criteria and for bca student another criteria ?

Hi, the criteria for CAT exam has been the same for all candidates:

1. Candidate should have completed his/her Bachelor’s degree program in any stream from a recognized university or have an equivalent qualification which is recognized by the Ministry of HRD, India.

2. For general and NC-OBC category candidates, the minimum percentage required in the bachelor’s degree is 50%.

3. Candidates from the reserved categories must attain a minimum aggregate percentage of 45% in the bachelor's program.

4. For candidates who are awarded grades or CGPA, the conversion of grades or CGPA will be according to the process certified by the university/ institute.

Now,  a lot of engineers get through CAAT. Being an engineer is not a cause of cracking CAT thpugh. Lots of good students who take commerce courses or humanity courses also crack the CAT. It is a well known fact that maximum number of engineers crack CAT every year. So, to increase diversity of the incoming batch, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other good B-schools offer extra points to non-engineers sometimes as well. The criteria for CAT exam is same for every candidate.

• As per the CAT exam eligibility, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized or statutory institute/college as incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State legislature in India or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India

• Students must have an aggregate score of at least 50% or equivalent CGPA for general, EWS and NC-OBC categories. Whereas, aspirants belonging to reserved category (Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD) categories) must have an aggregate of 45% or equivalent CGPA.

• Candidates who are appearing for the qualifying examination or the results are awaited can also apply, however, their admission will be provisional. Such students, if selected, must ensure that they submit a certificate from the registrar/principal of their institute/university stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelors or equivalent qualification
