Dear Kowshika, B.Des is a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Designing while B.Tech is a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology. If you want to have a career in Management or study in any of the top IIMs or B Schools, no matter what your educational qualification might be, you may have to appear for CAT. There are other entrance examinations as well like SNAP, XAT,MAT, ATMA, etc along with CAT that you can appear for.
Hello
The only thing B.Des. students don't have is a B. Tech. degree to flaunt and what is left with majority of the B. Tech students is a B. tech degree.
There are very less theory courses throughout the course of B. Des. when compared to B. Tech. Learning in B. Des. comes through doing projects while applying the basic knowledge in the context of your project.
The comparison between B. Des. students is futile as they all have different interests and different priorities which is mutually respected unlike in any branch of B. Tech where everyone is judged by their GPA (sadly, it still continues to be the best guess to judge a person's capabilities)
For CAT exam :
You will be considered a fresher during admissions and most of your interview questions will be regarding your Btech.
Although candidates with work exp are preferred in many Bschools, freshers are also welcomed as they have more learning capabilities.
Thankyou, I hope it helps, feel free to approach for further queries
