As with other types of institutions, NITs in India provide financial aid for students of varying socioeconomic backgrounds. Students from low-income families who are seeking tuition waivers must annually provide a new Income Certificate for their household, issued by the appropriate State Government agency. SC/ST/PH students receive a complete tuition waiver. Tuition is waived in full for students from General and Other Backward Classes whose families earn less than Rs. 1 lakh per year.
