Hi Karthik,

The candidates are given 120 questions to be answered in 120 minutes. The preparation plan is in line with other entrance exams.

NMAT exam consists of 3 broad sections :

  • Verbal Ability
  • Quantitative Ability (this includes Data Interpretation too)
  • Reasoning

The broad topics which are examined under these three sections are :

  1. Verbal Ability (22 minutes) –
  2. Para Jumbles
  3. Sentence Correction
  4. Sentence completion
  5. Antonyms and Synonyms
  6. Analogies
  7. Grammar
  8. Reading Comprehension


  1. Quantitative Ability (60 minutes) –
  2. Averages
  3. Simple interest and compound interest
  4. Time, speed and distance
  5. Time and work
  6. Profit and loss
  7. Ratio proportions
  8. Algebra
  9. Number systems
  10. Mensuration
  11. Geometry
  12. Quadratic and linear equations
  13. Trigonometry
  14. Probability, permutation and combination
  15. Data sufficiency

Data interpretation includes:

  • Line graph
  • Bar graph
  • Pie chart
  • Tables
  • Venn diagrams
  • Combination graphs


  1. Reasoning (38 minutes)- It consists of two sub-parts:

Verbal reasoning :

  • Assertions and reasons
  • Strong and weak arguments
  • Assumption conclusions
  • Critical reasoning
  • Courses of actions

Logical reasoning:

  • Linear arrangements
  • Circular arrangements
  • Input/output
  • Coding/decoding
  • Family based puzzles
  • Directions

Preparation

  • Be thorough with the basic concepts of the topics listed above.
  • Practice short-cuts for the questions already done as this test needs to speed with accuracy to clear.
  • Prepare self-notes and flash cards
  • You need to practice everyday to improve your speed
  • Practice sectional mocks as this exam has sectional time limits
  • Practice mocks and try to give the mocks in the slot of your actual exam.
