I don't know what gym you are referring to. If you are talking about the gym of particular college so you might get that information by contacting the warden. Otherwise, generally college gyms are not free. The might charge you less but there's usually a fee. Some college might have free gym membership you'll have to contact the hostel faculty to get that information.
