The Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) is an admission test conducted every year for admission into Master of Science (M.Sc.) and other post-graduate science programs at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research(IISERs) and other top Indian institutes like National Institutes of Technology (NITs), NISER Bhubaneshwar etc. IITs and IISc are institutions of national importance and are well known, the world over, for quality education in engineering, science & technology and research in frontier areas. The aim of IITs and IISc is to build a sound foundation of knowledge, pursue excellence and enhance creativity in an intellectually stimulating environment. The vibrant academic ambience and well-equipped research infrastructure of IISc & IITs motivate the students to pursue Research and Development careers in frontier areas of basic sciences as well as interdisciplinary areas of science and technology.
Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) is being conducted from 2004 to provide admissions to M.Sc. (Four Semesters), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, etc. Programmes at the IITs and Integrated Ph.D. Degree Programmes at IISc for consolidating Science as a career option for bright students. These postgraduate programmes at IITs and IISc offer high quality education in their respective disciplines, comparable to the best in the world. The curricula for these programmes are designed to provide opportunities to the students to develop academic talent leading to challenging and rewarding professional life.
.IIT JAM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: -
.Candidates from any nation can apply for JAM Exam and there is no age limit to appear in the exam.
.Candidates should have minimum 55% aggregate marks in graduation if belongs to General or OBC-NCL category or if they are from SC/ST/PWD category then they should have minimum 50% marks in graduation without rounding-off.
.Each IIT and IIsc has their own guidelines for different courses on which basis they give the admissions in the institutes.
.Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc): - Integrated Ph.D. Programmes in – Biological Sciences, chemical science, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences
.IIT Bhubaneswar (IITBBS): - Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. Programmes in –Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Atmosphere and Ocean sciences.
.IIT Delhi (IITD): - Two-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programmes in -Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics. Chemistry,
M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree Programmes in -Environmental Science and Engineering,
Operations Research
.IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN): - Two-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programmes in -Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics.
.IIT Dhanbad (ISM): - Two-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programmes in -Chemistry, Mathematics and Computing, Physics.
Three year Master in Science (M.Sc.[Tech]) in -Applied Geology, Applied Geophysics.
.IIT Indore (IITI): - Two-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programmes in – Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biotechnology, Astronomy with an option to convert it to M.Sc.- M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree Programme during the second semester.
.IIT Kharagpur (IITKGP): -Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. Programmes in -Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics.
.IIT Hyderabad (IITH): - Two-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programmes in -, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Mathematics and Computing, Physics.
.IIT Madras: Two-year M.Sc. programs in :-Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
.IIT Patna: Two-year M.Sc. programs in:- chemistry, ,Mathematics, and Physics
.IIT Ropar: Two-year M.Sc. programs in-Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
.IIT Varanasi: Two-year M.Sc. programs in -Chemistry,and Physics.

IIT Palakkad: Two-year M.Sc. programs in- .Chemistry, and Physics.

Mode of Exam : Computer Based Exam
Number of Papers : Seven Papers are conducted for each respective subject i.e. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematical Science, Geology, Biological Science, Biotechnology
Medium of Exam : English
Duration of Exam : 3 hours
Number of Questions : 60
Type of Questions : 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT)
Total Marks : 100 Marks [50 (MCQ) + 20 (MSQ) + 30 (NAT)]
Negative Marking : Only for MCQ
