How can a non pcm background Student clear cat
Hi Sagar,
The key beauty of CAT lies in the first letter of the word which stands for “Common”. From my experience, I can tell you that a batch in any b-school will have students having diverse academic backgrounds. Clearing CAT is not related to the specialization you belong to. CAT is a normal competitive exam which tests your aptitude in the three areas: Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative ability.
For clearing CAT, one needs to identify their strengths and weaknesses. There might be chances that you might not have any strengths. But you need not worry about that. Understanding the basic concepts and practicing regularly will help you gain confidence and mastery in the topics.
In order to prepare a strategy for yourself, first you need to understand the patter of the paper and the syllabus for the same. Usually there are 34 questions ins Verbal Ability, 32 questions in LRDI and 34 questions in Quantitative Ability.
Once you have understood the pattern of the paper, then you need to practice daily. This is the most important thing needed to score well in this exam. You need to daily practice at least 10 questions per concept covered by you in Quantitative Ability. It is must that these questions should be non-repetitive in nature. Practice 405 sets for LRDI every day. The first thing you need to do is that you need to start reading a renowned newspaper. This will help you improve you English, build your opinion on recent news and keeps you updated with the current affairs. For having a hold on Para Jumble and CR, you can learn the various strategies for answering such questions and then start practicing the questions.
