a landfill can be defined as the site for disposal of waste materials. It is known to be one of the oldest forms of waste disposal.

The process of dumping waste materials on a barren plot of land after compressing it is commonly known as landfilling. It is one of the most common methods of waste disposal.

It is an important method of waste disposal as it helps in the prevention of urban and rural pollution.

It helps in prevention of pollution in some of our water bodies by reducing the amount of waste materials that are dumped directly into them.

It is also important to make note that, radioactive waste cannot be disposed in landfills as they might cause harm.

Firstly, a landfill area needs to be certified as they help in proper disposal, recycling and elimination of wastes and rubbish. Landfilling is an important method of waste disposal because it collects waste in a particular site and then helps recycle the waste where waste are concentrated into several layers and then, compacted so as to reduce the volume.  So, this way waste is not littered and can be treated properly.
