Hello,

Here's how Chlorine prepared by electrolytic method.

Chlorine can be manufactured by the electrolysis of a sodium chloride solution (brine), which is known as the Chloralkali process. The production of chlorine results in the co-products caustic soda (sodium hydroxide, NaOH) and hydrogen gas (H 2 ).
Chlorine is obtained as a byproduct during manufacture of NaOH. Aqueous NaCl solution is electrolysed. Hydrogen gas is obtained at cathode and chlorine gas is obtained at anode.
The reaction of chlorine with:
(i). Cold and dil. NaOH
Sodium chloride and sodium hypochloride are formed.
Cl2+2NaOHNaCl+NaOCl+H2O
(ii). Slaked lime
Bleaching powder(CaOCl2) is obtained
Ca(OH)2+Cl2CaOCl2+H2O.

I hope this helps.
