NIT Durgapur: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) is ranked 46th in the Engineering category by NIRF Ranking 2019, making it one of India's top engineering colleges. It's a Deemed University situated in Durgapur, West Bengal. It is a fully-funded first technical institution of the Government of India and is governed by an independent Board of Governors.
IIEST Shibpur : Indian Institute of Science and Technology Engineering (IIEST),Shibpur was founded in 1856. It was the first college in India to develop a course in mining engineering. IEST, Shibpur (formerly known as the Bengal Engineering College) ranked 19th among the Engineering Institutes in NIRF 2019.
It's should totally depend on you in which college you want to take admission. The data regarding the placements are fully of civil engineering in both colleges. So, it might help you to decide further.
All the best. Thank you.
Hello,
To begin with, IIEST is ranked 30 by NIRF, while NIT Dgp is ranked 47. But rankings are like scoreboards, they never tell the full story.
If you're interested about placements, you should really check out the placement pages of IIEST and NIT Dgp on Facebook. You can simply search ‘IIEST Shibpur Placements' and 'NIT Durgapur Placements' on Facebook to get to the respective pages. The annual placement summary for IIEST isnt ready yet, so take a day out maybe and compare the placements by scrolling through the pages. It will be a tedious process, but since this decision is going to decide the next four years, it's worth it. NIT Dgp has almost twice the number of students in the UG courses than IIEST, so dont get swayed away just by the numbers- I believe the stats aren't very different if you consider percentage. However, NIT does see a larger number of companies visiting for recruitment owing to the greater number of students, but competition is greater as well. Your chances of getting placed with a good salary actually depends a lot more on the department than the institute in this case.
As of now, the NIT tag is definitely doing better than the IIEST tag. Nobody really knows IIEST, to be blatantly honest.
If you wish to pursue higher education afterwards, IIEST will be a wiser choice, given its proximity to Kolkata and hence availability of plenty coaching institutes--- whether for CAT/GATE/GRE. This opportunity is not so much pronounced at NIT.
Hello Aspirant,
I would recommend you IIEST Shibpur for civil engineering because both the college's are great in terms of infrastructure, facilities, faculty etc but when our branch and it's placements and learning is concerned IIEST Shibpur wins over NIT Durgapur as NIT Durgapur is great for CS students but for civil engineering IIEST Shibpur is great as it has witnessed students with great placements with attractive salary packages.
Hope this helps
Good Luck
