Hello,

If you wish to become an IAS Officer then you will have to appear for the Civil Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission, UPSC.

Now minimum eligibility criteria to appear for the IAS Examination is that candidate must have completed their Graduation degree.

---- So, if we consider that you are in Class X,then you will need 2 years to complete your Basic education upto class XII, after which you will need minimum 3 Years to complete graduation degree such as Bachelor of Science, BSc or Bachelor of Arts, BA.

--: Other degrees will take more years for completion such as Bachelor of Technology or BTech will take 4 years.

----- So minimum time to become IAS would be around 5years.

I hope you find the answer helpful.

Thank you.

Hi

In order to become an IAS officer you need to clear UPSC civil services examination at for  that you need to do graduation.

So, after 10th you will need at least 5 years (  2 years for 11th and 12th and minimum 3 years for graduation)  to become an IAS officer. It can become even 6 years if you do 4 years graduation course like btech or even 7-8 years , if you do graduation like mbbs which is of 5.5 years.

Also, this is when you clear UPSC examination in your first attempt itself because there are many students who take 3-4 attempts means 3-4 years after graduation in order to clear UPSC itself.

Here's stepwise explanation how you can become an IAS officer:-

*Complete 10th

-------------------------) Take admission in 11 and then complete 11th and 12th.You can take admission  in any stream i. e science, commerce, arts for 11 and 12th.

------------------------) Take admission in graduation in any discipline like BA, Bsc, Btech etc and complete it.

------------------------) To become an IAS officer you need to qualify UPSC civil services examination.

------------------------) After graduation you become eligible for UPSC civil services examination provided you are at least 21 years old. You can check detailed eligibility at :- https://competition.careers360.com/articles/upsc-ias-eligibility-criteria

------------------------)  Appear in UPSC civil services examination which consists of three stages listed below :-

*prelims exam :- it is objective paper and is of qualifying nature , so you just  need to at least qualify it to be eligible for mains examination, the score /marks obtained by you in your prelims examination is not added up or used in your final merit. Your prelims exam consist of 2 papers: -

-) general studies  1

-) general studies II ( csat )

You get 2 hours for each paper

*Mains exam. :- it is descriptive /written examination . There are a total of 9 papers  which are listed below:-

-) compulsory indian language.

-) english

-) essay

-) general studies I

-) general studies II

-) general studies III

-) general studies IV

-) optional I

-) optional II

*Interview :- After qualifying mains, you have to go through interview round, and it is more of test of your personality rather than knowledge.

------------------------) If you managed to sail through all the three stages  then you can become an IAS officer depending on your rank in UPSC, your category etc

Dear student,

Since you are in class 10th now and in order to become an IAS officer graduation needs to be completed in order to meet the eligibility criteria for appearing in the examination. Then after graduation it depends on the time which you will take in order to prepare for the Civil services examination because there are students who get selected after preparation of 6 to 12 months and then undergo the required training so therefore you will find IAS of just 21 or 22 years, because during their graduation they started preparing during graduation and gave the examination after the graduation and get selected thus it totally depends upon your will , how easily and quickly you will complete the syllabus and get selected.
