Greetings, aspirant!

If you wish to make a career in astronomy in India, the best way to do so is by joining ISRO.

To start with qualifications, you need to get a bachelor's degree in engineering or a field pertaining to physics such as MSc in Physics. After getting your postgraduate degree, you can opt for a PhD program from a recognized University as a research assistant while writing your thesis for your degree.

There are many Institutions in India that can help you build a career in astronomy and astrophysics such as:-

  • Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore
  • Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai
  • Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune
  • Raman Research Institute, Bangalore
  • Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar
  • Jawaharlal Nehru centre for advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore

In order to join ISRO, the best way would be joining IIST for your bachelor's and/or Master's program. Recruitment is done on the basis of a student's performance as judged by ISRO's recruitment board (ICRB)

Hope this information helps

Best of luck!!
