How to become IAS ...studying in science stream ... What are the better ways to follow
It really doesnt matter from what educational background you belong if your preparation is good and you have in depth knowledge.
Any degree or graduation/post-graduation in any subject is alright. For higher education, one should always pursue the subject which one finds interesting and is comfortable with. Academic career and interest should not be compromised for an uncertain and highly competitive career in civil service.
If you find physics or chemistry really exciting, please go for that. I always feel a good science student has greater flair and ability to write precise answers in a logical and objective manner.
Stay focussed and motivated :)
Cheers !!
A small but respectable number of candidates from graduates from science stream do take up civil services and crack it regularly. However, their number has not really been great enough to leave an impact on the final tally. But, considering the growing clout of scientific thinking and rising need of technocrats in the bureaucratic setup, it is surely seeing a slow and steady rise.
You need to work harder and be motivated all the time. You can crack this exam with 100 percent dediaction and right guidance.
Start reading newspapers and ncert books and further you can opt for coaching classes.
All the best !!
Hi Ashwani,
IAS prep requires a lot of time and dedication. Go for it only if you have made it your set goal. In the beginning, you should acquaint yourself with the syllabus, paper pattern and start collecting material. You should read up newspapers as well as keep up with current affairs. As a science student, you can either opt for pure science subjects in Mains because IAS is all about competition and there you have to find your edge. As you are a science student you will have an edge however you can even go otherwise and opt for scoring subjects like public Administration, Pol.Sc to name a few. It all depends on your command over the subject.
To clear prelims, you need a thorough knowledge of almost all liberal arts and gk subjects. Start with NCERT and move on to guidebooks. Smart study and note making is the key to success. Revise and increase writing skills.you should be able to devote adequate hours to your test prep.
Also, you can even enroll for popular IAS coaching centres which offer one year or 6 month courses. They provide you with test material and mock exams.
Hope this helps!
