1. Those who have started preparation and have complete less than 3 subjects
2. Those who have started and have completed 5-6 subjects.
3. Those who have not started the preparation at all.
Let us first consider those who have started their preparation some time back and have completed 2-3 subjects. So, the first step that you need to take is to make a schedule for the next 4 months in which you can cover most of the remaining subjects (if not all). But at the same time you need to start revision in parallel for already covered subjects. So, the target in the next 4 months should be:
Cover almost 80% of the course by the end of December or first week of January.
Revise the already covered subjects in parallel.
Start with the subject tests and give subject test whenever you cover one subject or you revise a subject.
Once you have covered the targeted course and have done revision as well you can give almost 15-20 mock tests in the month of January in which the aim must be to get maximum marks in the portion that you have covered. Do not be bothered about the course that you have left.
Set practical targets based on your capability and the time that you can dedicate for preparation and do not worry if you have to leave certain portion of the course.
Give priority to subjects based on weightage in GATE exam.
Now let us move onto those people who have covered 5-6 subjects till now. First of all, you guys are on the right track and well done for the work till now. But we have to take care that this intensity is not dimmed in the coming months but we have to increase the enthusiasm because if you can keep us this spark for 4 more months then you may achieve your dreams so always have eyes on target when you feel down and low. Now let us see the steps that you can follow in the next 4 months.
Set aside separate time slots for revision and covering the left over course.
Do not think about leaving any topics yet because you guys can still complete 100% course.
Make sure that you attempt almost previous 15 year GATE questions so that you are well aware about the kind of questions that are generally asked.
Be in the limits of the GATE course. Do not go overboard because that can waste a lot of precious time.
Make sure that you see all the possible type of questions that can be asked from a particular topic.
Start attempting test series but do not be bothered too much about performance in Subject Tests because some questions are out of GATE scope but do learn from your mistakes.
Start attempting mock tests once you are done with 8-9 subjects and check your performance in the subjects that you have covered.
Lastly let us discuss about those who have not started GATE preparation yet. Though you guys are late so I cannot promise that you will be able to get a top rank but still I will tell you what is the best that you can do in these months.
First of all make a priority list of subjects based on weightage in GATE papers in the last 5 years so while checking the weightage do not go till 1990s gate papers.
Then consider those subjects which can be easily covered within minimum possible time and have significant weightage in GATE exam.
Try and complete at least 60% of GATE syllabus but study only relevant portions in each subject.
Be problem oriented that you can solve each type of problem from a particular topic that can be asked in GATE.
Do not bother too much about the topics that have not been asked in GATE and the type of questions that are not generally asked in GATE.
Try and attain perfection in whatever you study so that you can aim to get 100% marks in the section that you know.
Try and complete at least 5 mock tests before you sit in GATE exam.
I hope you all can get started with the next phase of your preparation and go well in GATE exam.
