Hello,

Since the date of exam is already known, you can strategize your study plan for the next 5 months. Know the KVPY Exam Pattern , KVPY Syllabus , KVPY Books well in advance. Try and cover each topic thoroughly. Solve as many KVPY Question papers and KVPY Sample papers as possible. After completing the syllabus, try and sit for KVPY Mock Test . For more information, click on How to prepare for KVPY .

Best wishes

Hello.

1)Research:-Before starting preparing forany competitive examthefirst thingthat should be done isResearching, about thetype of questions, area from which most questions are covered, whether questions demand a high degree of logical thinking or is the paper a time-constrained one?You should start by analysing theprevious year question papersandmost importantly learningabout KVPYfrom blogs, articles, YouTube Videos, Quora and any such platform. You need to know what to study and what not to. Now KVPY requires apeculiar combinationof bothlogical thinking and speed of solving questions. So you must possess a good understanding of the matter + you must be able to solve the questions fast too.

2.Books:- This is one of the most important aspects of your preparation. Your choice of books will definitely influence your thought process in solving a question. After a lot of research and recommendation from my mentors, I have made a list of all the best books which you can use for your KVPY SA prep and which will give you the right content necessary for KVPY

For Chemistry:-

UseSolomons and Fryhles Organic Chemistry by Wileyfor theory of organic and useMS Chouhanfor solving organic questions. Organic is very important for KVPY so, start early.

For Physical Chemistry, you can useNCERT + Your Coaching Materialfor solving or, you can solve just some basic questions fromRC MukherjeeorNarendra Avasthi.

For Inorganic Chemistry,NCERT is necessary and sufficient. No need of going beyong NCERT in inorganic. Questions are hardly asked from here.

2.Physics:- HC Verma is the holy grail here. You must solve each and every question of HC Verma and must completely understand all the concepts used in the questions.

However,KVPYasks some standard questions fromOptics. So for Optics you must useDC Pandey.

I felt that theElectricity and Magnetism portion of HC Verma ,is not so good andnotup to the par ,so I used DC Pandey for it.

3.Maths:-I believe this is the toughest cookie to crack in KVPY. You need a lot of reasoning ability, ability to understand the various ways you can approach a question. Practise is the key. Themost important bookfor your Maths prep would beTOMATO (Test of Mathematics at the 10+2 Level) publised byISI.You must solve each and every question of this book leaving Calculus questions. You must noticehow to approach the questions, and the methods which are commonly successful in tackling those questions.

Trigonometry and Coordinate Geometry, these are never asked in KVPY,so you can use only your school book for doing these.

For Algebra,UseCengage. It has lots of questions so no need to do all. Just do Single Correct ones andcover the theory well from Cengage.

Those who have previously prepared for NTSE or perhaps RMO, you will not feel that Maths is difficult and you may prepare according to your wish after seeing the type of questions.

4.Bio:-

NCERT Bio Class 11 whole and NCERT Bio Class 12till Human Health and Diseases(Chapter 8) is very very important. You must remember every fine point and especially the ones written inboldin the book.

For Genetics (DNA, RNA etc) watchNeelam Bakore Tutorials in YouTube. She provides excellent video tutorials for Biology and youmusttake notes while watching the videos.

Ifyou purchaseKVPY DLP by Resonance,Their BIO material is excellent. So if you buy it, you must also be thorough with it.

3.Dedication and Smart Work:-

Just for the sake of reference,I started studying for KVPYon the evening on whichmy boards ended.Throughout those6 months,I never dared to waste a single day fearing that I might miss KVPY.

At first I was having difficulty prioritizing my coaching and KVPY Prep, and after some time, the confusion cleared out.

As I mentioned in the Research column , You must knowwhat to study. You must not waste time studying what is not important. You must skip solving questions which are formula or calculation based.Work Hard but yes, work Smart too at the same time.

You need not have looong study hours. I started at 8AM each day and ended at 10.30 PM at max along with 34 hours break for usual activities. No need to burn the midnight oil if you study smartly in the day.

4.Practice Mock Question Papers.

I usedMyPatandResonancefor solving mock test papers. The most important aspect of these tests is that you get to know thetime divisionfor each Section and in which Section you need to improve either your skill or your time Management. I would recommend Everyone to Sign up forMyPat and Resonance Test Series. Alternatively, there arePrepSeraandCareer Pointmock question papers forKVPY,which you may use.

Since you have reached till here after my loong answer, here is aBonus Point for you,

Find a Mentor. No matter what, a person who haspreviously undertakenthe same journey knows a lot of things more about it than you. So find a person who can give you valuable recommendations on books, topics to study, etc.

I was lucky to haveDebojjal Bagchi(CEO at Ambitious Eduventures) as my mentor, and he guided me through my prep from the very first day.I am very much thankful to him for the help and guidance I got from him.

(Disclaimer:- The following points are not paid promotion. They are purely based on my experience)

Ifyouwantto gain anedgeover other candidates after all yourpreparation.Get theKVPY SA Study MaterialfromAmbitious Eduventures.

It hasexcellent Bio material (with 1000s of important MCQ) , detailed solution of TOMATO, and lots of practice question papers.I also liked the list on all important Organic Tests with the reagents and observations which is included in the materials.

Lastly, I would like to end by saying thatbe motivated, be confident.Yes, you will be stuck at various problems, yes, you will feel low, yes, you will solve some amazing problems.ButAlways keep your goal in

Hope this is helpful.

Good luck.
