The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under Graduate ( NEET (UG) ), succeeded from All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) is an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study undergraduate medical courses (MBBS) and dental courses (BDS) in government or private medical colleges and dental colleges in India. The undergraduate NEET (UG), for MBBS and BDS courses, is currently conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
NEET-UG is a single entrance test for admissions to more than 66,000 MBBS and BDS seats across India.

National Eligibility cum entrance test aka NEET is an entrance exam conducted to get admission in MBBS courses in India. It is accepted in medical colleges all over India and is approved by the medical council as well.

NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test -UG) is an All India entrance exam conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) for admissions to MBBS/BDS Courses in India offered by Medical/Dental Colleges approved by the Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament.
The exam was scrapped in 2013 but came back in 2016. NEET was held twice in 2016.
NEET 2020 eligibility requirements:
Aspirants must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete the required age on or before Dec 31 of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course. The upper age limit for the exam is 25 years on the exam date. A relaxation of 5 years for aspirants belonging to OBC/SC/ST category will be given.
Age criteria to appear for NEET (UG):
- Unreserved category students: On or between May 7, 1993 to Jan 1, 2002
- SC/ST/OBC category students: May 7, 1988 and Jan 1, 2002
Number of attempts:
- The number of attempts which an aspirant can avail will be limited to 3 (three) uniformly to all the candidates. Appearance in NEET-2018 will be counted as first attempt.
- Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Oversees Citizen of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) & Foreign Nationals are eligible to appear in NEET (UG)-2020.
Eligibility for seats under the control of States/Universities/Institutions/ AFMC/Central Pool Quota:
- Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Oversees Citizen of India (OCIs) & Foreign Nationals will be eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institution and the Government of India. These aspirants are eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.
- Foreign nationals can confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dentals college/state
Exam pattern
NEET is a three hour long consisting of 180 objective type questions (four options with single correct answer) from Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology). The exam will be held in 8 languages including - English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya and Kannada.
For each correct answer, students will get four marks and for one mark will be deducted for any question answered incorrectly.
Declaration of results
Results are declared on official website after one month from the commencement of exam.
