Dear student
There are a number of options available for those wanting a career as a chef, and these include the following -
The best choice would be a course in hotel management from a reputed institution
There are approximately 20 government run institutes across the country, which offer the right infrastructure and faculty and are registered under (NCHM) National Council of Hotel Management
A number of hotel chains also run institutions that conduct courses in hotel management
Students can also enroll in private institutions that are endorsed by the (AICTE), All India council for Technical Education and affiliated with foreign institution of hotel management
OR
A number of Food Craft Institutions spread across the country offer diploma courses in catering and food processing
The eligibility for joining these institutions is pass certificate in class X
There is no minimum pass percentage required nor is there an entrance test
Food craft courses are conducted in large batches and cover different aspects of food preparation and presentation
The course duration is usually 6 to 18 months
Students can opt for different specialization
The course lays focus on only food and its preparation and does not cover other subjects of hotel management
On completion of the course students can find junior level employment in hotels and over a period of time reach the supervisory cadre
Hope this helps
All the best!!!
