I am not good at english section. How to improve?

For improving your verbal ability section you should start reading lots of good books written by good authors like Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie, Sydney Sheldon and various good newspapers like Hindu which will help you in improving your English literature.



For improving your vocabulary you should learn 5 new words daily with their meaning and correct pronounciation and use them in your daily conversations so that you can memorize them properly.



For RC section you should start reading passages and understand the thought process of author and what is his intentions and what message he actually wants to deliver through the pasaage. With this approach you will be able to solve maximum questions asked below the passage.



Along with this refer book by Arun Sharma which is pretty good to know and practice the different types of questions asked in the CAT exam. Also gives lots and lots of online mock test and analyse the solutions of each mock test thoroughly which will help you in overcoming your mistakes and making up a strategy to attempt the paper which will definitely help you in improving your marks and percentile.

For English practice is the key. You need to practice as many questions as you can. The more you do the better you get. You will get a hang of the questions asked and how to go about them. It helps you get familiar with questions. You will also get to know which areas you are weak in and need to work upon. Get a book to practice like Arun Sharma or any other Arihant published book. You will also need to increase your reading speed. Apart from practising questions start reading books and articles. Start with something you like and increase the difficulty slowly. Install apps like economic times or business standard on your phone.

Read! Read! Read! To ace the RC section of CAT, you need to spend an hour on an average everyday reading. Good comprehension comes from reading with a relaxed mind, one that is receptive to new ideas. It comes from engaging with the author: understanding not just what he says, but why he says it and how he feels about it. Take your time to read the passage, say 8-10 minutes. This will be time well spent if you involve yourself while reading.

Good comprehension comes from the ability to make connections with what you already know. So, read a wide range of subjects - politics, science, economics, philosophy, culture - so that you get comfortable with these topics and don't balk when you see a passage that relates to a topic you don't know much about.  To start with you can read books by these authors: Sidney Sheldon, Jeffrey Archer, John Grisham, Agatha Christie, Mario Puzo, Salman Rushdie, Aravind Adiga and many others. You can also start with newspapers including TOI, ET, Indian Express, The Hindu, HT etc.
