Hello,
Well my dear friend it's good that you are garnering work experience before doing mba. But you can do mba without work experience too.
Most of the people, after gaining one or two year experience in management field, think of pursuing an MBA or a PGDM course, so as to further polish their credentials and job prospects. While many think that there is a difference between the two, few also perceive both as the same degree, with just a difference in the name. It is very much important for an individual to understand how both of them differ from each other and what their relevance is.
Pursuing both these courses helps one in the growth of their career, in getting a better position and obtaining a bigger salary.
I wish you all the best.
Cheers !!

There is no hard and fast rule for doing MBA as a fresher or with a work experience. Apart from IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, ISB Hyderabad (through GMAT) which gives high weightage to work experience all other reputated colleges has a fair distribution of freshers, low work experience (<2 yr) and high work experience (>2 yr).
In terms of placements there are many marketing companies which prefer to pick up freshers or low work experience students. Generally 24 months work experience is considered to be ideal work experience for doing MBA as during placements it opens up an opportunity to sit in lateral placements and also 24 months work experience gives a better knowledge about industry which you can use while pursuing MBA degree.
As you are working in lifescience company and if you want to continue in the same industry sector after MBA then atleast 2 years work experience is must. But if you are looking to change domain then you can even try to crack CAT exam after 1 year. If you are able to end up in a good college like one of the old IIMs then I will recommend you to Join but if you failed to do so or college you get is not good enough then you can reappear after 2 years work experience.
P.S. - In the list which is made to call students based on aggregate score also has a parameter work experience in which generally students with 24 months quality work experience gets highest marks.
All the best for your preparations and exams!!

Thanks for your reply. Can you please tell me apart from IIMs which are best colleges for doing mba.
Apart from IIMs there are many private colleges like FMS, Narsee Monjee, Jamanlal, S.P. Jain, XLRI, MDI Gurgaon, IIFT Delhi and Kolkata, ISB Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, Symbiosis are some of the very good colleges for doing MBA.
Many of these colleges are even better than New IIMs in every aspect.
