Most of the IIMs consider work experience in any domains. If you take any IIMs, more than 75 percentage of students will be engineering graduates and most of them belong to IT industry where they worked as software developers or any other non managerial employees. So it's not necessary that you should belongs to finance, marketing or operation. There are civil enginneers, accounts, dentist and many other people have work experience in different domains in IIMs and other top bschools.

Hi! Mostly IIMs of institutes which consider work experience for final selection note whether it is full time work experience or not. Part time or internship doesn't count. For premium institutes like IIM Calcutta, only managerial work experience counts. However, work experience forms 4-10% of the final selection weightage. So rather than focusing on the relevance of your work experience, prepare for CAT. If you are able to get a high percentile, you can get into a good college and fulfill your MBA dream.
