I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Sundar Pichai didn't plan to become the CEO of Google by doing metallurgy. He was getting IIT Kharagpur, metallurgy with his rank, so he chose metallurgy because of the top IIT fame. There he learnt coding (very important if you want to join Google) and then he did his M.Sc in Stanford University(very renowned) with MBA through Wharton University of Pennsylvania. So for managing a company as big as Google, you need technical knowledge (masters) and Managing too because you're running such a big company. So don't follow anyone blindly, do what you find interesting and that might help you in achieving your goal. For example, a degree in metallurgy didn't make him the CEO of Google but his hardwork and knowledge in coding did.
