An engineer is a person who uses science, technology and mathematics  to solve problems, improving our work, travel, lifestyle, communication and  health. An engineer is someone who uses his thinking and analytical skills  with a touch of science to solve large scale problems. As an engineer, one should be Up-to-Date with the latest trends in technology and invention. One should be able to think, not just quickly but also effectively. An engineer's job can be a boon to the development of a particular sector. An engineer is one with innovative problem solving techniques and sharp observation skills. The undergraduate courses in various streams may help one to prepare for the same. However, additional efforts, dedication and the will for betterment always proves to be a supplement.

Eligibility Criteria for engineering

You have to fulfill certain conditions put up by the educational board .  If one cannot meet the requirements mentioned by the education board, he/she will not be able to go ahead with the application and candidates  dream of becoming an engineer may remain a dream.

A. 12th Grade Examination:

For B.E/B.Tech(4 year program) - Candidates should have passed class 12th from a  recognised educational board with Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics or in  some cases *Biology too with 50% aggregate.(might vary)

(*Biology depends on the choice of your specialization)

B. ENTRANCE EXAMS:

Entrance exams are conducted throughout our country for the admission of  engineering aspirants provided they fulfill the criteria (required percentage in PCM). If you are keen to pursue engineering as as  career, here is a list of the entrance exams which you should appear for:

1. National Level Exams

• JEE MAIN - It is one of the most popular engineering entrance exams .It is conducted by the  National Testing Agency( NTA ) twice a year and is known as the Joint  Entrance examination. It is a very competitive exam in the country  and lakhs of students give this every year. Qualification of this exam  with cutoffs given by the institutes will give you admission to NITs and after  passing JEE Advanced along with the required cutoffs you are eligible for admissions  into IITs , IIITs ,NIITs,GFTIs.

• JEE ADVANCED - This exam can be only given by the candidates who  have less than 2,50,000 ranks in JEE MAIN and after you clear JEE Advanced with exceptionally good ranks you are eligible for admission to  Indian Institute of Technology's (IITs). They are the best institutes in India  to study engineering but you have to work tooth and nail for the  entrance exams to get admitted there.

2)  University Level Entrance Exams

IITs and NIITs may be some of the best institutes to pursue engineering,  however, the nation-wide competition and less no of seats may dishearten many  young aspirants. Nevertheless, there are some of the best private institutes  too, which are prestigious like many NIITs and IITs. These institutes  conduct their private examinations for admissions into their own campuses.

• BITSAT - BITS admission test

Birla Institute of Technology and Science is a private and a deemed  university which gives a world class education to its students. The BITSAT is a online computer based entrance test which on successful  completion gives admission to UG engineering courses at campuses,  i.e. BITS Pilani, Goa Campus or Hyderabad campus.

  • Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research Aptitude Test  (IISER Aptitude Test) - The Government of India has established IISERs at Berhampur , Bhopal , Kolkata , Mohali , Pune , Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati to integrate and promote interdisciplinary science education and research.Candidates who enroll and successfully clear the cutoffs of the IISER Aptitude Test are eligible for admissions into the 5 yr integrated BS -MS program.

• SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam(SRMJEEE) -SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed University) conducts this exam for admission to UG courses in Engineering ,It is a common exam for their all campuses in Tamil Nadu, Amravati, Sikkim and Delhi. SRMJEE does not have negative marking for attempting answers incorrectly which makes it a choice for candidates. Seat allotment will be done on the basis of candidate's performance in the entrance exam/ candidate's ranks, choices locked by the candidates and availability of seats.

• Manipal Entrance Test (MET) - Manipal Institute of Technology ,Manipal Karnataka is a very reputed college  providing high class education with good placement opportunities since 1957. The Manipal Entrance Test is a prerequisite.

• Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University Admission Test (SAAT) - Siksha 'O' Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar is a deemed university and is recognised by AICTE,They offer many programs that are accredited by NAAC and have a great infrastructure and teaching. SAAT exam is required which is a 2 hour online/offline exam .

(3) State level Engineering Entrance Exams:  The efforts required to crack the above exams are painstaking and require  focus. The fee structure can put a strain on many pockets. The colleges that are under the umbrella of government Universities in metropolitan cities have state of the art facilities and can be good choices for education. Every state has its own Engineering entrance exam .
