Astronomy is the science which deals with the study of heavenly bodies.Though undergraduate level course is not available in most of the university in our country. So, To pursue career in therotical /observational astronomy , one can do B.sc in physics or mathematics. For pursuing the career in experimental astronomy ,one can do B.tech/B.E in electrical or electronic.but most of the universities offered various courses related to astronomy at masters and P.HD level. These university are IIsc Bangalore , Delhi university, jadavpur university offered course at masters level.

Indian institute of astrophysics (IIA) offers fulltime p.HD course.

Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophystechnology (IUCAA )has a regular Ph.D. programme for which applications are invited every spring from students who either possess an m.sc in Physics / Applied Mathematics / Astronomy / Computer Science or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or technology.

Joint entrance screening test (jest) is conducted at an all India level every year in the month of February for admission to Ph.D. programme. The institutions participating in this programme are : Harish- Chandra Research Institute (Formerly Mehta Research Institute of Mathematics & Mathematical Physics); Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bangalore; Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubhaneswar; Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar; Inter-University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune; Inter-University Consortium for DAE Facilities (IUC-DAEF), Indore; Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore; National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bangalore; National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Pune; Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad; Raman Research Institute (RRI), Bangalore; S N Bose Centre for Basic Natural Sciences (SNBNCBS), Kolkata

After completing the course one can easily get the placement as a research fellow in major government institutions like DRDO, ISRO .

good luck:)

Hello Ritik,According to my knowledge, there is o undergraduate program available in India to pursue a career in astronomy. But to pursue a career in theoretical /observational astronomy, you can do b.sc in physics or mathematics. For pursuing a career in experimental astronomy, you can do B.tech/B.E in electrical or electronic.Get a master’s degree in science. Getting a master’s degree will allow you to take specialized classes on astronomy, physics, and math. After completing the course one can easily get the placement as a research fellow in major government institutions like DRDO, ISRO.Since you are in class 12, so your first target should be to get good grades in physics, mathematics, and chemistry. Then you will be able for b.sc  in physics or mathematics.Hope this helps.
