Dear Bhoomi,

When should you start preparing : if you want to appear for CLAT 2023, you have approximately one year to prepare and thus you should start with your preparations right away .

How to prepare for the new CLAT pattern :

The new pattern, which was introduced in 2020, requires you to think critically in all five subjects.

Reading comprehension : To prepare for this skill, an aspirant will need to read a reputed English language newspaper regularly. The Hindu or The Indian Express are good newspapers for this. This will increase the comprehension speed and ability of the aspirant, which is non-negotiable for a lengthy exam like CLAT. Reading newspapers will also help with current affairs and general knowledge .

Current affairs : apart from reading newspapers daily, for static questions, one can look for such websites as Gktoday. Try to write down important events and revise them frequently.

Logical comprehension : to read critically, one needs to read good quality editorial and opinion pieces from the newspapers and attempt the questions of similar exams like LSAT or GMAT.

Quantitative aptitude : for quantitative aptitude, use questions from standard exams like SBI PO and standard competitive books like Arun Sharma or R.S Aggarwal.

Legal reasoning: read current legal issues such as Roe v Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court of the USA, electoral bonds, anti-defection law etc. You will find these covered in the newspapers. According to CLAT Consortium , PRIOR LEGAL KNOWLEDGE ABOUT SUBJECTS LIKE TORTS, CONTRACTS and IP LAW IS NOT REQUIRED. You simply need to be legally aware especially about the Constitution and Constitutional matters.

Solving the previous year questions and several mocks is a must. Overall, focus on reading newspapers and solving mocks and PYQs. (Similar strategies also work for AILET, SLAT, MHCET, BHU, LSAT India etc).

I hope this information helps!
