I wanted to become an astronomer. What should I do after class 10th
Dear Vansh,
You are already studying Science in 10+2, for your graduation studies, so, you can go for Bachelors in Physics or Mathematics or Aeronautical Science. After completing your Bachelor's you need to go for Masters and Ph.D levels. The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune, India is one of the best institutes offering Ph.D programs . They do not offer Masters program in Astonomy but they do offer Masters in Physics.
For Ph.D programs
The students are usually taken after screening, so the entrance tests are :
IUCAA-NCRA Admission Test (INAT)
INAT is conducted jointly by Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics and the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, Pune in the month of December every year in Pune
Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST)
This test is usually conducted at IUCAA, Pune across India on the third Sunday of February each year.
CSIR-UGC NET for JRF (Physics)
Only those who have qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in the previous two years are eligible to apply.
Wishing you all the best !
Hi Vansh,
You need to pursue your 10+2 in Science stream. After 12th, you can pursue B.Sc in Astronomy or B.Sc in Geophysics or B.Sc in Physics or B.Tech/B.E/B.Sc in Aeronautical Science. Once you complete your Bachelor's degree, you will have to appear for entrance exam and interview for getting admission into a PhD course in astronomy/astrophysics. Work hard and fulfill your dream.
Best of luck!
