Your case is similar to many of the cases, and many students make it.
One of my friend was also preparing for iit while he was in 1st year.
And he got iit, so you can also do so.

Hello Nitin,
You can try jee main and advanced exam for consecutive 2 years. You can choose NIT this year and take iit from next year. But I would suggest you to go for iit colleges this year since one year wouldn't be wasted. Also the fees will be lower and you will adjust with time. You can write jee twice from the year you have written the exam. Therefore you can write jee advanced next year also.
