Hi Heera,
-
Year of Passing Class 12:
- If a candidate passed their Class 12th board exams in 2023-24 (after failing in 2022-23) , their year of passing is considered as 2024 .
- For JEE Advanced, candidates can only attempt the exam in the year they pass Class 12 and the year immediately after.
-
JEE Advanced Attempts:
- The maximum number of attempts allowed is two consecutive years after passing Class 12.
-
Since the candidate officially passed Class 12 in 2024, they will be eligible for:
- JEE Advanced 2024 (the year of passing).
- JEE Advanced 2025 (the year immediately after).
- JEE 2023 Attempt:
If the candidate attempted JEE Advanced 2023 while technically failing Class 12 in 2022-23, that attempt will not count because they were not eligible to appear at that time. Only valid attempts made after officially passing Class 12 count toward the two attempts. The candidate will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2024 and 2025, provided they meet other eligibility criteria. Their participation in JEE Advanced 2023 (if any) will not be considered a valid attempt. For more information regarding this, you can check out the given link.
Best Wishes!

Hello,
No, your first attempt will be counted when you will appear for JEE exam first time, it doesn't depend on you r 12th passing year .
- JEE Advanced eligibility is based on class 12th performance and number of attempts, not solely on the academic year.
- A candidate who failed in 2022-23 but passed in 2023-24 will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2024 if they meet other criteria (age, JEE Main score, etc.).
- JEE Advanced counts attempts starting from the first successful JEE Main appearance. If they cleared JEE Main in 2023 and appeared for JEE Advanced 2023 but failed the class 12th exam, that still counts as their first attempt.
- Their first attempt in JEE Advanced is linked to the first successful appearance in JEE Main.
Hope it helps !
