I'm a third year student of B.Tech, could you please tell me how to start preparation of CAT?
Dear Nishant
This is the right time to start peparing for CAT examination.
- First of all the student must start clearing the basic concepts of all topics.
- Go through any standard textbook like arun sharma or material of any coaching institute.
- Then start reading editorials daily from newspaper. Also read norman lewis books.
- Then enroll in a test series from febuaray and give regular mocks and analyze them as well.
- Increase the frequency of mocks to 2-3 per week as the date of exam approaches or at least 3 months before the exam.
All the best.
Dear,
Please attention to the following points -
- The first important thing is to finalise on a study material, the biggest mistake that people do is to roam around between multiple study materials. Trust one coaching material finish it and only then move ahead.
- Give a mock test so that you can benchmark your performance for future.
- Quant: Start with topics that covers maximum questions in CAT, for ex- start with numbers then geometry and so on.. There are plenty of free sources available where you can get the number of questions for each topic.
- Verbal: Practice RC's daily, thats the only way to tackle it. For grammar to get the basics right finish wren n martin, its very structured. for parajumbles etc. study material is enough
- DI: Practice is the only way to tackle this section, try to solve its questions daily.
- Lastly give mock test every month initially and during last couple of months try to give 2-3 mock tests per month.
- Thanks for asking.
This is the right time to start your preparation. To begin with I would advise you to join a good coaching institute or subscribe to the material and mock CAT series of these institutes.
Over the next 1yr you must definitely read the newspaper daily. The strategy ahead would be:
- For the next 3-5 months focus on strengthening your concepts. Solve concept based exercises and be fast in solving questions.
- Next you should focus on mock papers and analysis of mocks. Do sectional tests and improve scores under tine pressure.
- Finally you should look at developing strategies for CAT.
