Yes, a btech student can apply for cat exam.For an engineering it is very easy to crack this exam.What you need to do is just be strong at following subjects,
1.logical reasoning.
2.Quantitive apptitude.

Yes you can apply for CAT Exam. Infact many B.Tech students apply for CAT exam. In CAT there are three sections:
Quantitative Aptitude
Logical reasoning and data interpretation(LRDI)
Verbal Ability
Quantitative Aptitude - consists of problems of Mathematics up to class 12th level. This is the section that is most scoring for any entrance examination.
The practice is the key to score in this section.
LRDI comprises of about 32 questions. It is considered as the most crucial section, as well as the most difficult one.
Verbal Ability - One of the main keys to success is to read books, articles newspaper, increase your vocab and solve Reading Comprehension.
