Hello,
CAT is just the first step towards admission in a B School, CAT is followed by WAT/AWT, followed by Group Discussion and then finally by a Personal Interview round.
At the time of CAT you may have a backlog but by the time you give your PI, you must clear the backlog.
This means that after writing the aptitude test ie. CAT if you clear it you are called for subsequent rounds, in this time you need to clear the backlogs.
At the time of admission, you must be an undergraduate with no pending subject or uncleared backlog.
A backlog might have a negative impact, but if you can justify well don't worry with the backlog. Have a good graduation score and a good CAT percentile, you can do well.
Hope this helps.
Thank You.
You can write CAT whether you have backlog or not, just clear it before the final admission process, where your documents are required.
Documents would be mentioned in the CAT notification when it will be released.
