Question : In an office of 900 employees, on a particular day, except for 10% of the female employees, all employees were present. On the next day, except for 8% of the male employees, all employees were present. The number of employees present on each of these two days was the same. Find the total number of male employees on the payroll of this office.
Option 1: 550
Option 2: 450
Option 3: 800
Option 4: 500
Correct Answer: 500
Solution :
Given:
Total employees = 900
Let the total male and female employees be 10$M$ and 10$F$.
According to the question,
10$M$ + 9$F$ = 9.2$M$ + 10$F$
⇒ 0.8$M$ = 1$F$
⇒ $\frac{M}{F} = \frac{5}{4}$
⇒ Ratio of male and female = 5 : 4
So, Total number of male employees = 900 × $\frac{5}{9}$
= 500
Hence, the correct answer is 500.
