Hi,
Yes,Diploma was start with theory approach but the and of diploma shift on practical.In diploma when you admit so 13 sem was theory approach cover. Jobs are available easilyDiploma holders have practical knowledge so they are super trainedDiploma holders under rate their skills; they can start working on relatively low salary.They get jobs in core field.
And must you clear your programming fundamentals in c, c++ language when you learn in those sem.After 46 sem most of subject go to practical approach to clear a how to build or create web app, Deskopt app and etc....
In 5-6th sem in diploma there was one project that project give you experience to how work in field...
When you clear or complete your diploma at that time you have enough knowledge of specific branch related. And most of company hire diploma engineer because they have enough practical knowledge .
