Hello Vaibhav Amrit,
The placement opportunities in ceramic technology in our college was outstanding till 2011. The college each and every year used to ensure more than 100%(yes,you are reading it right,it was more than 100%) placement to the ceramic students which means apart from the fact that every student got placed, most of them used to get two or three jobs (again, no exaggeration). But,in the past few years, the scenario has changed drastically. Last year, only 14 students were placed out of 37. This year also, till now(end of march) only 13 students have been placed including one IT job(I have been placed in WIPRO). But, I would also like to mention that, among the 13 students, 5 have been placed in VEDANTA with a lucrative package of 8 lpa. So,the average package of ceramic jobs is around 4–5 lpa which is quite good when you look at the present scarcity in the job market.
But, you have to keep in mind that unlike other core engineering streams, the students of ceramics are hardly allowed to appear in the pool campus drives of IT companies(this year, luckily wipro after several requests by our placement officer allowed only those who have above 75% in both 10th and 12th) but yes, you can appear in the off-campus drives in which the competition is times harder.
But, the biggest advantage of our stream is that it is one of the easiest streams which can open the door of M.tech in IIT for you. As, the competition is not that huge, you can easily crack GATE if you study sincerely according to the syllabus of GATE(Engineering Sciences(XE) is our stream). So,if you are passionate about higher studies, it is one of the best streams to opt for.
Coming to Kalyani Govt. Engg, College, the placement opportunities as I have heard are quite good here. WBSEDCL, CESC and some other core electrical companies are regular recruiters. Apart from that, the mass recruiters like TCS,CTS,WIPRO also recruit a substantial no. of students from Electrical engg.
