Is it impossible to get top 100 rank in iit jam by self study ??
Hello Pramod,
The easy and obvious answer to this question is NO. Of course it isn’t “impossible“ to get an under 100 rank with self study.
But if we are to be pragmatic, the first step to answering this question is an honest introspection, recognising your strengths and weaknesses and choosing the best way forward based on it.
Based on your performance and experiencec so far ask yourself this
1. How has your academic performance in school and college been?
2. How much of self-discipline and consistency do you have? Have you in the past given up easily after a short time or are you the tortoise who is steady in his effort?
3. Do you easily grasp the subject on your own or do you often have doubts and need a mentor’s help to get past them?
4. How motivated are you about your further studies, does it come from an innate desire to learn and achieve a set goal in life or is it because everyone around you seems to be doing it?
Now I know there are no black and white answers here, but if you honestly feel that your past experiences and current motivations indicate that you can do this on your own, sure go ahead!
If you are planning to do so, abreast yourself with the exam pattern and syllabus well.

Make a tentative time-table and be meticulous in your approach. Frequently assess -
Did you meet your daily targets, weekly targets?
Solve precious year papers and mock tests routinely.
Seek out seniors who have cleared the JAM exam before and take tips from them regarding preparation and time management.
If you stay consistent, I am sure a double digit rank is definitely within your reach.
But if you feel like you’re not being able to cope, join a coaching institute before it’s too late.
Good Luck!! :D
