Is it necessary to get good percentage in 10th and 12th class for selection in CAT exam?
Hello Akahita Khandelwal,
IIM take around 40-50% weightage of your CAT scores and the rest on GD-PI and ithers.
In others, its around 10-20% depending upon different Criteria for IIM and usually they take weightage of all three ie. Graduation eith higher weightage, followed by 12 and 10.
To land into IIMs, a safer score of 85+ in all three areas will give you a good weightage.
Hope your doubts are cleared. Feel free to ask more queries.
All the best for your future endeavours
Definitely it is necessary, if you want to end up in good Business schools of the country, you need to have a good 10th-12th score.
Your 10th score is nice but 12th is average. You can further build up your profile by getting some extra curricular certificates. Many students have average 10th-12th scores but they have nice extra curriculars to get their over all profile in line.
All the best.

Dear Akshita,
Each and every MBA institue have a different criteria. IT is true that some of them put a weightage on past academics. But the truth is there is a composite score in each college consisting of CAT/Other exam result, GD/PI marks, DIverdity etc. SO if you are able to get your marks high in other sections, a little less in academics wont hurt much saving a few choosy colleges.
Hello Akshita,
Generally, IIMs gives some weightage to academics. But that is very less in comparison to the weightage given to CAT examination. You have decent score in Class X & Class XII. You need not worry about past scores.
I suggest you to focus on CAT preparation and score as much as possible. Do not think of academic scores at this point when effectively less than 2 months are left for CAT examination.
Good Luck.
Hi Akshita,
Xth and xIIth scores are considered for CAT examination but the propotion of weightage given to it compared to other components like graduation, work experience, extra- curricular activities is vIIM have different criteria and keeps on changing year on year. Some IIM's focus more on diversit than academics and some prefer good academics. Generally IIMC, IIML, IIMK and new IIMs give less weighatge to academics as compared to IIMA, IIMB.
And moreover your score in both 10th and 12th is decent enough to be considered. I would suugest to focus on CAT as there is good probability for the shorlist from IIM's if you score well in CAT.
Good Luck
Thanks,

According to the criteria for getting admissions through CAT,class 10th and 12th marks are also considered. However, they are not the only factors.Your percentile in CAT,GDP, PI,Work experience and co-curricular activities also are important parameters. So,don't let your marks of school affect you.Build a good CV,incorporate and develop skills, prepare well and you'll find yourself into one of the top B-Schools of the country.
Hope this helps.
