Yes it is perfectly ok to take a year drop or gap after your 12th to prepare well for JEE examination , and these days taking a gap is quite common many students take one year drop after their 12th and not only qualify JEE mains but qualify JEE advanced as well and even make it to IITs , you can do the same.
