First of all i would like to convey you the difference between the pgdm and mba couse.

Pgdm is diploma course and mba is a degree course.Some people think that pgdm course doesn't match the level of mba degree course but however that is a just a myth.

As of now, even the iims offer diploma course . I think it is more important to understand your career goals instead of thinking about diploma or degree.

Pgdm on other hand is focussed more on industry and it's practical knowledge whereas mba is focussed on technical and it's theoretical aspect.

So, i hope you would diffrentiate by the above points.

Let us see both MBA and PGDM in brief before I answer your question.

• MBA i.e Master of business administration is a degree course , and being a degree it is  little  more theoretical

• PGDM is graduate diploma in management i.e it is a diploma course, PGDM is accredited by Association of Indian Universities which makes it equivalent to MBA, it is more practical,  even  prestigious IIMS offers PGDM.

So, there's  not much difference  between  MBA and PGDM , the only thing is that MBA is a degree course while  PGDM is a diploma course , also when it comes to job then there's no difference in the way companies  treat a PGDM and an MBA , even your Career growth is similar for both the courses and it  largely depends upon your performance.

So both MBA and PGDM have more or less equal scope and opportunities , you can go for either  of them , what  matters is the college or the B-school  from which you pursue them , brand value of the college,  its past placement  records, industry exposure provided by the college  etc because your starting package and placement  after completion of the course is mainly dependent on college’s name and brand, not whether it offers MBA or PGDM.

So, if you are getting PGDM in some IIM and MBA in some average college then obviously you should go for PGDM in IIM, so I would suggest you that rather than course you should go for college

But just to answer  your question,  MBA has little bit edge over PGDM as it has global acceptability for employment,  the Top B-schools in the world offer MBA degree and not PGDM which is diploma. Also , if you want to go further  studies in abroad then foreign universities require MBA degree instead of PGDM diploma to offer you admission in Ph.D or Doctoral programme.
