If the post of engineering officer in merchant navy is your dream then, no. You will have to be a mechanical /marine/Electrical /electronics engineer to be an engineering officer in merchant navy. However you can be a cadet on deck by doing a BSc course in nautical science. The age limit for cadet on deck is 25 years. Hope this helps and Good luck

There is no Merchant Navy Rank which comes in use with the Computer Engineering course. There is no recruitment of professionals who makes software on-board and most jobs are physical oriented. You are right that you can join Merchant Navy after Computer engineering as Deck Cadet but only after doing Diploma in Nautical Sciences course which is of two years or Graduate Mechanical Engineers course which takes 1 year but these courses can also be joined after 12th. So in short you will be fully disregarding your Computer engineering degree then.
