Hi,
Thanks for A2A!
Group Discussion and Personal Interviews are a way to test the candidate and his/her fitment into the MBA program in general. As such, there is no written dress code which is formally given to the students to wear. Neither the MBA calls, nor any ther website mention any dress code. So offcially or as per rules you can wear anything.
However, you understand that MBA GD PI is an interview and you want to clear the interview, not get rejected. Therefore, it is advisable that you wear something decent. In the corporate worls, jeans and shirt are treated as Casual Wear. They show that the candidate is not actually interested towards the college. The same impression would go to the intervieweing panel if you go dressed like that. They say first impression is best impression.
The first impression of jeans will leave them disinterested in you or may reflect your lack of interest and therefore end up in your rejection too. Chances are that you may also be asked and grilled about your dress code.
I'm not sure if you are a girl or a boy. So i'll say the safe dress code for both:
Girl - Salwar/Saree/Business Suit with or without Blazer
Boy - Trouser, Shirt, Belt, Blazer (if you wish to)
All the best
Group Discussion and Personal Interviews are the first step of entering into a bschool. It is the first time that you will be interacting with the esteemed panel sitting in front of you. CAT is an exam which is given by almost 2 lakh people every year and it is honestly a privilege to be seated in front of a Bschool panel. It is an opportunity for you to showcase who you are and what you bring to the college.
Ideally, it shouldn’t matter what you wear or how your appearance is, the only thing that should matter is what are your thoughts. But we do not live in an ideal world.
No matter how much we deny it, first impressions definitely count. It is just a matter of seconds when someone already passes a judgement on you.
It definitely makes sense as in your post MBA career, you will be dealing with a lot of stakeholders who will be top notch professionals and industry stalwarts. There, you will have to look you best and put your best foot forward. You cannot afford to be taken as someone who is not meticulous.
Hence, it is my advice to look as sharp as possible. Get well groomed, put your best formal clothes, polish those shoes and rock the GD/PI process.
Hope I have helped you with your query. Feel free to ask me questions. All the best!
