Yeah, of course possible - with dedication, determination and smart study . First thing you should remember is the syllabus because I have seen many students studying some topics without knowing whether that is in syllabus or not. If you know syllabus, you should start developing your knowledge. Just remind one ti
There are two ways to make strategy to clear JEE in one year without coaching-
1.) If you are an average student and basics are not that strong, you should start studying NCERT books first, it will not only make your basic concepts strong but also boost your preparation of JEE-mains specially. Every year, atleast 25 questions out of 30 are asked only in Chemistry from NCERT book.
2.) If you have a good command on basics, Just go for some good books like mentioned in below answer by Shefali. You only have to focus on some concepts of JEE Advanced which are new to you.
Now i would like to give you some tips -
1.) If some concepts seems tough or confusing in books there are always many related video tutorials on youtube.
2.) I will suggest you to start solving Previous year papers before 3 months of JEE mains. This will give you idea about syllabus and also you will come across some important topics and concepts.
3.) You must join JEE test series of any Coaching. It will give you an idea about how you are preparing as well as you will feel the real pressure of sitting 3 hours in JEE before JEE mains itself. It will be bench mark of your preparation.
4.) You should quit every thing which distract you from studying like most commonly facebook and any such thing you consider as a distraction.
5.) Set short term goals and divide the whole syllabus in topics. Analyse your performance every week. If you complete a goal, give yourself reward by going for a movie or restorent to eat your favourite food.
5.) Be determined for JEE and have confidence that you can do it.
Understand your strong and weak areas and see how much time you would take while preparing each topic and subject. Make sure that you keep some buffer time for yourself as you prepare for the exam. The most important aspect of self study is to remain dedicated and not lose focus.
I am presuming that you are beginning your preparation for the exam now, then your aim should be to finish both the JEE Main and Advanced syllabus by mid of next year and then you should take up mock tests as well as practise from the question papers of the past years. This will help you to identify your strong and weak areas. If you are solely focussing on the JEE preparation, then you should devote ten to twelve hours everyday. Do not over exert yourself and take short breaks also so that you give rest to your mind.
The last three to months before the exam should be kept for thorough revision and taking up mock tests. During the course of the preparation through self study diligently analyse your weak and strong areas and ensure that you so not repeat the same mistakes.
In the end i Just have to say that it is all about focus, right strategy, studying from the right books and working with the single aim to crack the exam. If you follow this, I am sure you will be able to crack the exam.
