Dear candidate Civil Engineering is overall really a good stream. Metallurgy is also good but it's difficulty level is somewhat higher than Civil Engineering. You will get plenty career opportunities after civil engineering like:
1. Geotechnical Engineer
2. Site Engineer
3. Structural Engineer
4. Construction Engineer and many more,
You can expect starting Package of 6-7 LPA as a successful civil engineer and as you gain more experience your pay scale would increase accordingly.

Good luck!!
Hello candidate,
If you take any particular college, the placements of metallurgy dept. are a bit low than civil dept. This is the reason the cutoff of the civil dept. is also high. But if we talk about job opportunities, both a branches have a somewhat equal in number opportunities.
All the best!
College Comparison based on Courses, Placement, Rank, Fee
Hello student ,
According to my knowledge the job opportunities for civil is quite more than metallurgy . As civil is the oldest branch of engineering and is definetely one of the core branches of engineering and has more jobs in private as well as public sector whereas metallurgical is also good but it has a good reputation in only some colleges , so only there the placements are high.
