Well my friend writing is the key in IAS mains exams.

You can go through prelims as it is a objevtive type paper. But in Mains you need to master the art of writing. How to articulate your thoughts onto the paper with accuracy. You can watch videos on YouTube regarding art of answer writing in mains exams.

UPSC Civil services exam is conducted in three phases and notification for exam comes in April and Prelims falls in August. The prelims result comes in September. The Mains exam falls in December and result is out mostly in Feb/ March.

Well my friend the answer is yes. Writing is the key in ias mains paper. You will be writing 2 essays plus other papers like optional papers and regular 4 General studies paper. So try to improve writing as it can make or break your situations.

To improve writing keep practising on a regular basis and it will surely bring result for you.

Essay writing is a creative work so you need to think as well while writing. Don't worry you will learn with practise.

Partially Yes.

But dont worry if your handwritting is not that good , you can still make your answer presentable just write neatly, leave good space between the lines and words so that examiner can understand what you have written. Better to give give headings to various paragraphs, write in an orderly fashion, underline important facts.
