Hey Muskan.

CLAT is an entrance test conducted for admission to National Law Universities or NLUs in India for five year integrated law courses. There are a total of 21 NLUs in India. A few of these NLUs are the top colleges to pursue Law in India. It includes NLS Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, NLU Jodhpur, WBNUJS Kolkata etc which are among the best as well as the most sought after Colleges for Law. There is no specific entrance as Law CET. There are various state entrance exams like MH CET LAW, TS LAWCET, APLAWCET which are entrances for admission in various law colleges in the respective state. CLAT is more sought after and preferred more by law aspirants. But these state entrances also give admission to top law colleges within the state.

Best of luck

Hey aspirant,

Today, there are several entrances for admission to law degrees at colleges across the country.

These include CLAT, LSAT, SET, IPU-CET and NLU Delhi (AILET), to name a few.

The primary difference between LAWCET and CLAT is probably in terms of the institutions they offer admissions to.

Common Law Admission Test, CLAT, according to me is the distant relative of the Common Admission Test (CAT) for MBA Exams, with some added baggage.

CLAT (Common Law Entrance Test) is a national level annual law entrance exam for the admission to  five-year integrated law programmes and conducted by 17 member NLUs of the CLAT Committee.

LAWCET, which stands for Law Common Entrance Test, used to refer to the examination conducted for admissions to undergraduate law courses in the state law colleges of Andhra Pradesh. This was ofcourse prior to 2014, after which the state was split into two and Telangana came into being. Since then, the LAWCET examination was also split state-wise, with admissions to the undergraduate law colleges of Andhra Pradesh being conducted through AP LAWCET and admissions to the undergraduate law colleges of Telangana being conducted through TS LAWCET.

Thank you.
