The top recruiters in India are software companies.
So CSE, ECE, EEE students are preferred in software jobs.
In some top colleges, even any student is irrespective of their branch are recruited in software companies with 3lakhs package. Secondly, both mechanical and civil are recruited. But both mechanical and civil have more opportunities in PSUs through GATE. Even, EEE comes under that category. Metallurgy is one engineering branch which have more opportunities in PSU(govt. jobs) side.
However if you got admission in IIT or NIT or any engineering colleges which has 100 percent placement record history in past years, then don't worry about the branch.
If you give your interest and pay good hard work in your branch of study with respect to the college you are studying assuring good placements, then your future will bright.
All the best.

Hello,
Write now CSE/IT is having the best placement.. and with the growth of IT/ecommerce/Investment Banking, the industry needs more and more efficient coders..
ECE is also having good time as VLSI field is growing..
Core fields like electrical/mechanical/civil are evergreen.. it may not give a very high initial salary but with time it will grow..
My suggestion is to not look for package right now and follow your passion.
Hope it helps.
