MA English Paper was earlier subjective and but the new pattern is based on MCQ Questions.
MCQs are based on Factual, Conceptual, Procedural and Metacognitive Levels
History of English Literature (Chaucer to Post-modern) , It includes the following-
- Important Authors and their individualities
- Important Texts
Literary Movements and their features
Contemporary British Literature
Significant Imaginative Writing from outside England in countries such as Canadian, Australian,Caribbean etc
Third World Literature with special reference to Indian literature in English and in
English translation
Literary Theory and Criticism (Plato to Postmodernists)
Gender Studies
Relationship between Literature and the Visual Arts
Reading Comprehension (Prose and Poem passage)
Inference (based on aconclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning, not directly available in the text itself)
Test of Register - This includes a variety of a language or a level of usage, as determined by degree of formality and choice of vocabulary, pronunciation, and syntax, according to the communicative purpose,social context, and standing of the user)
Candidates are examined in Literature in English, Literature in India and Other Parts of the World, English in India, Literary and Cultural Theories, Non-Literary Artistic Forms, the Relationship between Literature, Culture and Society, and Practical Criticism of given literary pieces.
The objective of the test is to select those who demonstrate not just in -depth knowledge of literature and culture, but literary sensibility and a capacity for original thinking.

- Complete history of English literature
- Don't waste much time on Elizabethon period
- Focus on Shakespeare
- Read dramas
- Don't waste much time on Jacobian age
- Romanticism along with history of movement, read leats, Shelly etc
- Read novels by dickens (not so much)
- Go through post colonial theories (seems important)
- Structuralism, post Structuralism
- Get knowledge bit about American literature
- Indian literature till 1990
- Read poetry at random
