Respected sir/ma'am, I've an academic profile of 8/8/6 (10th, 12th, graduation respectively) so my query is that with this kind of academic background would I be able to convert top B schools and IIMs if I take the CAT exam? I'm a general non engineer female with no work experience.

Hello aspirant,

YES, you can definitely crack CAT exam, if you have the ability and determination to do so. Your class 10th and 12th marks don't matter. Only matters is your determination and hard work in giving the CAT Examination.

To be eligible in CAT Exam : the candidate has to pass at least their Bachelor's degree with at least 50% (for General Category and for candidates from the NC-OBC caste) . For SC/ST and Differently Abled (DA) candidates, the percentage required is 45%.

Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) category candidates need 45% marks in graduation . Candidates in final year of Graduation are also eligible to apply for CAT 2021. Candidates who have completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with 45% marks.

Further, if you wish to crack CAT and want to get admission in top B schools or IIM, then you can follow the below mentioned steps to know more :

  • Focus on enhancing your basics of mathematics.

  • Learn topics like profit and loss, number system, geometry as they will form key questions in CAT 2022.

  • Practice as much as you can and go for mock tests.


  • Reading as much as possible is the best way to crack this section and score good marks.


  • Go through newspapers, journals, blogs, articles, etc to enhance your reading skills.

    • Try solving questions based on comprehension, inferences, and para jumbles. Candidates can join any private tuition or take CAT coaching and prepare from the foundational booklets provided to them.


    • Considered to be one of the toughest section in CAT exam, needs a lot of hard work to be done from the candidate’s side.

    • Check the previous year's question papers of CAT and try to re-attempt those questions.

    • Try to study basic topics like seating arrangements, blood relations, syllogisms, etc to grip hands on this section. Do no use a calculator while solving questions.
