short notes about the permanent settlement
Hi there.
The Permanent Settlement was known by several names, including Istamrari, Jagirdari, Malguzari, Bishvedari, and Zamindari. Lord Cornwallis established the Permanent Settlement of Land Revenue in 1793. Zamindars, or landlords, were recognised as landowners. They were granted hereditary succession rights to the territories they controlled. The Zamindars may sell or transfer the land as they pleased.
Landlords were required to pay a predetermined sum. This was decided not to be increased in the future (permanent). The set sum was 10% of the government's revenue and 10% of the Zamindar's revenue.
