should we start preparing for GATE exam from 1st year of college
Hello,
If you are pursing Engineering then in first year the syllabus would be mostly common for all branches. You would have Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics along with other subjects. From second year core subjects would be introduced. So if you start GATE preparation in first year you may not understand the subject or it would take time more time for you to understand the topics. But if you think that you can grasp the concepts you start your preparation but we would suggest you to utilize the time to learn a skill or indulge in extra curricular activities. It is suggested that you may start preparing for GATE when you are in fourth semester or fifth semester because by that time you would already study some of the core subjects so you can grasp the concepts quickly and you can concentrate on GATE completely.

Hello aspirant,
It's upto you totally, GATE is related to your 2nd and 3rd year syllabus alot.you can study your subjects which are common in your GATE syllabus and college syllabus, and start dedicated GATE preparation from 3rd year.
You can go with good efforts if you start as soon as possible but don't take it too hard, as college life is also important, grades in college and other activities are also important.
You can start slowly and can gradually boost your preparation as time passes by.
I hope it helps,
